Winspear Opera - Dallas, TX
The Winspear Opera House in Dallas at the newly constructed AT&T Performing Arts Center features a 70' wide x 40' high printed main curtain designed by artist Guillermo Kuitca and fabricated by I. Weiss. The curtain depicts a fragmented image of the opera's seating area on a dark brown velour background.
Kuitca provided a digital art file which we manipulated to ensure the right proportions and appearance of the image in the wavy context of pleated fullness. This along with color matching is the most critical and challenging part of this type of printing project. The final file was then split into sections to be printed on thirty individual velour widths that needed to be carefully matched, seamed, and pleated. As a finishing custom touch to the art I. Weiss then applied Gold satin applique in areas designated by the artist.
The Winspear Opera curtain is the third printed "Art Curtain" created by I. Weiss after the Adrienne Arsht Center Curtain in Miami. and the Balboa Theater in San Diego.
