Steel Patterns, templates, or gobos, are widely used by lighting designers in theatre, film, photography and television to create atmosphere, project scenery, and generally enhance the visual impact of their lighting. To ensure design integrity the patterns are etched using a precise double-sided process on stainless steel. The result is durable, high quality patterns which will withstand the extreme heat at the gate of ellipsoidal spotlights.

Rosco Steel Gobos are available in 11 standard sizes which comprise most of the fixtures currently available. The popular "A" and "B" sizes fit most ellipsoidal luminaires. Gobo Holders are available for A and B size steel gobos. Standard sizes for popular moving lights are also available. Trimming of patterns, where necessary, can be easily accomplished with a pair of scissors. For a complete list of sizes and fixtures, refer to the fixture chart.

Colorizers glass gobos can be used to create beautiful multi-colored projection effects. Colored in gentle hues in one of three styles - stippled, featherlight, or free flow - Colorizers can be used alone or combined with a steel pattern for a more dramatic effect. Colorizers are recommended for use in fixtures up to 1000 watts and require the use of either a Glass Gobo Holder or the Universal Iris Slot Holder. Colorizers are avalable in standard B Size or in smaller sizes for automated luminaires by special order. Stippled Series and Free Flow Series designs are available in X Size for use in the Rosco X-Effects Projector.

Image Glass is deeply textured glass that refracts and bends light into intricate patterns of light and grayscale images. Altering the sharp focus of the fixture transforms the image into subtle and complex textured shadows.

Image Glass requires the Universal Iris Slot Holder and is recommended for use in moving lights with lamps up to 1200 watts. In ellipsoidal fixtures, Image Glass should be used with a 600 watt lamp, though short term use with lamps up to 750 watts may be acceptable. Available in standard B Size or in smaller sizes for automated luminaires by special order. Certain designs (marked with an asterisk*) are available in X Size for use in the Rosco X-Effects Projector.

Prismatics require the Universal Iris Slot Holder and are recommended for use in moving lights with lamps up to 1200 watts. In ellipsoidal fixtures, Prismatics should be used with a 600 watt lamp, though short term use with lamps up to 750 watts may be acceptable. Available in standard B Size or in smaller sizes for automated luminaires by special order. Prismatics are NOT available for use in the Rosco X-Effects Projector.

Tip: When combining a Prismatic with a Steel Gobo, make sure the gobo is furthest from the lamp.

Colorwaves are a new idea in glass gobos to help create vibrant colored textures and shapes. Each glass texture - Waves, Strands, Ripple, or Mosaic - is coated in one of five brilliant dichroic colors. The projectino is a remarkable adn unique combination of color, texture, shading and blending.

Rosco custom gobos can be produced from virtually any artwork for both stationary and moving light fixtures. These include fixtures manufactured by Vari Lite, Martin, High End, Robe, ETC, TimesSquare Lighting, Altman and Selecon, as well as many others.

Custom gobos are created on glass or stainless steel substrates. Steel gobos are more economic and can generally be produced more quickly. Glass gobos allow fine details and very high resolution on an exceptionally dependable coating. This detail and resolution are often required even for black and white and grayscale images.
