Artifact Handling

Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum Washington DC

IWEISS is proud to be a part of the renovation at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

The revitalization of the building’s exterior and infrastructure along with the transformation of all 23 exhibitions and presentation spaces is a seven-year project.

Working with Crozier Fine Arts and our long-time partners Century Aviation of Wenatchee Washington, IWEISS has been contracted to design and execute all rigging required for de-installation and moving large artifacts out of the building to accommodate the renovation and then back into the newly designed exhibits once the renovation is complete.  The challenges involved with rigging and moving this amount of rare artifacts has tapped every corner of IWEISS expertise. Once complete, no single entity will have moved and rigged more large artifacts than the team of IWEISS and Century Aviation.

The photos on this page are only some of the artifacts we handled directly.  You can also view Smithsonian’s regularly updated flicker page at this link to see the most current progress with the project.
